Bhutan Travel Specialist, Druk Air Representative (Royal Bhutan Airlines)
I just returned from a Druk Asia tour in Bhutan. I was very well taken care of by SONAM CHOKI, who was an excellent and informative guide, and NAMGAY THAYE, our very competent, patient, and friendly driver. Sonam Choki provided a wealth of valuable information about and insights into the history of Bhutan in the context of the region, the political leadership of the country, and Bhutanese cultural values and religious practices. I was fortunate to visit an important Buddhist festival on my first day. Afterwards, I was guided in tours of many memorable dzongs and temples, and I had ample opportunities to appreciate the countryside and mountains. Sonam and Namkey took me to several local restaurants for momos and noodles. I was also able to sample all kinds of organic, locally grown vegetables and fruits at two farms as well as at a mountain hotel. Visiting a monastery enabled me to watch sports competitions among the young monks, and at a convent I asked three Buddhist nuns to chant prayers for my family. Along the way, I was able to meet various local people, including government workers and students. I enjoyed everything about my visit, from the clean air and beautiful scenery to the interesting architecture and builing designs. Druk Asia arranged thoughtful and tasty vegetarian meals for me. Best of all was the company of Sonam and Namgay, hosts par excellence.
