We Were Very Impressed With Bhutan
We had a great trip. Everything went to plan. We arrived a day earlier in Delhi so had plenty of rest before flying to Bhutan.
We were met by "Choki Dorgi", our guide and "Keelay" our driver. They both spoke excellent English, especially Choki, and they were both friendly, charming and helpful. OVer and above the itinerary, they took us into town to get supplies ahead of our big hike to Tigers Nest, and added a new small steep hike into the itinerary the day before for us to have practice.
I usually have all our trips planned to the smallest detail but because this time we followed your itinerary, I didn't check out the hike to Tigers Nest and I didn't realise how long and how high it was. Maybe the itinerary could stress this a bit more, though I really should have looked it up. However, we managed it easily enough as we are used to hiking, and of course, got great pictures, as we did throughout our trip.
Everyone we met in Bhutan was very friendly, and we never felt unsafe anywhere.
Choki was very informative about all the temples we visited, and answered all of our questions. Keelay was above all an excellent and safe driver.
The hotels were very good, especially Hotel Lobesa where we were given probably the best room there, with a huge room and balcony overlooking one of the best views in Bhutan. There was the odd bit of noise from dogs barking, mainly in the Namgay Heritage, and occasional noise from guests leaving earlier than us in the Metta, but not a problem.
The food everywhere was excellent, especially on the last night where we visited a Bhutanese home stay. We even bought some local wine, which was better than we expected.
Everything went smoothly with our departure - even though Druk Air has a monopoly on international flights, it still has a very good service.
We were very impressed with Bhutan as a country. Along with the people, the King seems to have an excellent attitude. I think we could all learn a lot of lessons from Bhutan.
Everything before the trip was perfect too. Quick answers to emails and questions, and paying for everything online was simple. For a trip so well organized to somewhere so special, it was good value too.
