I Left My Heart And Soul In The Land of Thunder Dragon

Kuzuzango La Sangay!

First of all, I'll like to thank you for assisting on the fuzz free booking for my trip from the hotel suggestions to what to expect on the climate during monsoon.

This solo trip to Bhutan is simply a blessing of my life! I embarked on this 10-day journey with an open heart + mind and brought back more than just incredible memories, but the friendships made along the way and found the meaning of life for myself!

The trip would never be as incredible and amazing without my outstanding guide and driver - Sonam Wangchuk T. and Chado Namgay respectively. Sonam seems to be like a walking encyclopedia, he shared information in a fun and enriching manner which made it easy for me to understand. He always tries his best to accommodate to my request for local spicy food and impromptu visit to the local community school with the other travellers.

Sonam was constantly on the lookout for my safety for the hike to Taktsang Monastery and thanks to his motivation we made it pretty fast to the top! Not to forget Chado, the ever polite and responsible driver of mine that ensures the car to be squeaky clean and always replenishes with bottled water for my comfort.  He made the bumpy rough roads seem effortlessly gentle that I could read my book and enjoy the fresh breeze on my cheeks! We had so much fun together talking for hours and sang our hearts out to songs during the long car ride to Bumthang. They are the best genuine people that never fail to put a big smile on my face every day. I would like to commend both of them for their excellent service.

Although I didn't get to attend the Matsutake Mushroom Festival at Ura as it was cancelled but I'm glad to be able to visit a community school and have an insight to the local school life. I'm also blessed to be able to catch a glimpse of the Himalayan mountain range that disappears into the sea of fog within seconds at the Dochula Pass!

Punakha's padi field trail to Chimi Lhakhang Monastery left a special place in my heart because of its extraordinary beauty. The homestay which I had with another traveller met along the trip was awesome, we get to taste the homemade butter tea of my liking & a special local fermented rice wine with egg in it (not sure what it's called - attached picture).

The hotels arranged are good in my opinion except for Olathang - Paro (A tad too old for my liking). Namgay Heritage Hotel - Thimphu (beautiful interior), Hotel Lobesa - Punakha (scenic view overlooking the padi) and Valley Resort - Bumthang (warmth hospitality of the owner & staff) where each hotel has their own charm to offer.

Kadrin chhe la to Drukasia for organizing my wonderful Bhutan experience and I will be sure to visit Bhutan again someday!

I'll definitely have to say - Druk Lu Gha Waiii! ~ I left my heart and soul in the land of thunder dragon.

Warmest Regards,

Sarah Sim
