Off-the-beaten track gem, a trek through the paddy fields

We had a wonderful honeymoon, thanks to the warm welcome from our guide Dawa Tshering and driver Sonam Choki. We eased into the itinerary upon arrival, which allowed us to pace ourselves and offered a good mix of sights and activities in beautiful nature. Dawa our guide was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and went out of his way to provide us a comprehensive understanding of the history and context of places visited. He even threw in an off-the-beaten track gem, a trek through the paddy fields in his home village in Punakha. We must also applaud our driver Sonam for his great driving skills, particularly when navigating the treacherous roads from Punakha to Gangtey.

Down-sides would be: More quality and choice of food would have been good and expected; on our second night at Tenzinling Paro, we had problems with hot water in the room and took two hours of waiting before staff finally gave us a room change. We also didn’t see the point of Haa in the itinerary as there was frankly nothing to see there. In spite of the minor hiccups, we are thankful for our time in Bhutan and we give full thanks to Dawa and Sonam for their incredible hospitality. It was indeed a wonderful experience and we intend to visit again in the future.
