Four Nights at COMO Uma Paro | Two Nights at COMO Uma Punakha

Embark on the ultimate luxury adventure in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, a journey that seamlessly blends cultural immersion with COMO’s signature comfort. Over six nights, you will delve deep into Bhutan’s Buddhist heritage, guided through sacred valleys, ancient temples, and breathtaking landscapes.

Spend four nights at COMO Uma Paro, your serene mountain base, with guided walks through the enchanting Paro Valley. Highlights include the iconic Taktsang “Tiger’s Nest” Monastery, perched dramatically on a cliffside, and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples. Two nights at COMO Uma Punakha reveal the fertile beauty of the Punakha Valley, where you’ll visit the magnificent 300-year-old Punakha Dzong and wander through lush rice terraces and village paths.

Along the way, experience the vibrant capital, Thimphu, and marvel at sweeping Himalayan vistas on scenic mountain drives. Evenings are dedicated to rest and renewal at your COMO retreat—whether in the heated swimming pool, the steam room, daily yoga sessions, or with a 60-minute COMO Shambhala body treatment designed to rejuvenate body and mind.

This is Bhutan at its most soulful—an inspiring blend of cultural discovery, natural beauty, and understated luxury.

All our tours are fully customisable — the itineraries you see are simply a starting point. We’ll work closely with you to tailor every detail so your Bhutan journey is truly your own.

Day 1

Arrival in Paro

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by COMO Uma Paro staff for your short 10-minute transfer to the property. After check-in and some time to settle into your serene Himalayan surroundings, your journey begins with a gentle introduction to Bhutan: sightseeing in Paro town and a visit to a nearby temple. This light afternoon excursion helps you acclimatise to the altitude and connect with your guide.

Overnight: COMO Uma Paro

Day 2

Paro – Thimphu – Punakha

Today’s journey takes you from Paro to Punakha, with a stop in the capital, Thimphu. Nestled on the banks of the Wang Chhu River, Thimphu is Bhutan’s political, spiritual, and cultural heart. An immersive city tour may include highlights such as the towering Buddha Dordenma, the National Memorial Chorten, views of Tashichho Dzong, and the Folk Heritage Museum (programme may vary). After leaving Thimphu, the road climbs to the Dochu La Pass at 3,000m, where 108 chortens, colourful prayer flags, and, on clear days, sweeping Himalayan panoramas await. From here, the descent into the subtropical Punakha Valley is a dramatic contrast of landscapes.

Drive duration: 3–4 hours (126 km)
Overnight: COMO Uma Punakha

Day 3

Punakha Valley Exploration

Spend the day discovering the charms of the fertile Punakha Valley. Begin with a short walk through farmhouses and rice paddies to Chimi Lhakhang, the 15th-century fertility temple dedicated to Drukpa Kuenley, Bhutan’s beloved “Divine Madman.” Continue to the magnificent Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most iconic fortresses and the former seat of government, now home to the Je Khenpo and hundreds of monks in winter. In the afternoon, walk through rustic villages and farmland to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, an exquisite hilltop shrine built by the royal family.

Overnight: COMO Uma Punakha

Day 4

Punakha – Paro via Dochu La Pass

Retrace your route across the Dochu La Pass for another chance to enjoy its breathtaking views of the Himalayas. At Chuzom, where the Paro and Wang Chhu rivers meet, you’ll see three shrines representing Nepali, Tibetan, and Bhutanese styles of architecture, all built to ward off evil spirits. Time permitting, stop at Tamchog Lhakhang, a temple founded by the iron-bridge builder Thangtong Gyalpo. The final stretch into Paro passes apple orchards and rice terraces. Later, you may try your hand at archery, Bhutan’s national sport, back at the property.

Drive duration: 3–4 hours (126 km)
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro

Day 5

Heritage Walk in Paro Valley

Today’s gentle hike takes you through some of Paro’s most treasured sites. Begin with Zurig Dzong, perched high above COMO Uma Paro, before traversing to Ta Dzong, home of the National Museum, with sweeping valley views. Continue to the elegant Rinpung Dzong, cross the traditional Nyamai Zam bridge, and wander past Paro’s main archery ground and Ugyen Pelri Palace before reaching the town centre. Later, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, famous for its orange tree that fruits year-round. Time permitting, head further north to the historic ruins of Drukgyel Dzong.

Duration: 5–7 hours, easy to moderate
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro

Day 6

Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) Monastery

A highlight of your journey: the hike to the legendary Taktsang Monastery. Clinging dramatically to a cliff face 900m above the valley floor, this sacred site is where Guru Rinpoche is said to have arrived on the back of a flying tigress, bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. Begin early to avoid the midday sun, ascending through pine forests, past a waterfall, and up to the monastery’s entrance adorned with vivid murals. Lunch is served either as a picnic or at the Taktsang cafeteria with splendid views. Return to COMO Uma Paro to relax and rejuvenate—perhaps with a soothing COMO Shambhala spa treatment, steam bath, or a dip in the pool.

Duration: 6–8 hours, moderate to hard
Overnight: COMO Uma Paro

Day 7

Departure from Paro

Your COMO Uma Paro team will arrange a 10-minute transfer to the airport in time for your departing flight.

I had initially planned my trip to Bhutan in 2023, but it was postponed until July-August 2025. I approached the trip with an open mind and heart, albeit with limited research. Unlike my usual solo travels, I opted for a guided tour this time. I would like to extend my gratitude to Sonam, who initially arranged my trip in 2023 and was helpful in accommodating changes to my plans. Ugyen was also instrumental in customizing my itinerary and responding to my queries in a timely manner.

Excellent trip to Bhutan in August 2025 through SoulTrips, which made the process of booking flights, obtaining my visa, and arranging hotel stays and my travel itinerary seamless. My guide Chencho and driver Tshering were knowledgeable and helpful, and I got to experience Bhutanese culture through their expert curation. I would recommend anyone use Soul Trips.

The main purpose of this 10-day journey was to embark on a pilgrimage to Guru Padmasambhava. In recent years, I’ve traveled less, having grown weary of constant trips. Yet, this visit to Bhutan was a spontaneous decision. Looking back, everything unfolded perfectly—especially since the final day of my trip coincided with the annual opening of Guru Rinpoche’s meditation cave. What incredible luck!
