Meet Your Host : Lala

Hello! My name is Lala, and I’m from Punakha. My homestay is nestled in the hills, surrounded by rice terraces and offering a breathtaking view of the magnificent Punakha Dzong. Located just a 15-minute drive uphill from the Dzong, it provides a serene retreat away from the city’s hustle and bustle.

A Homestay of Tradition and Comfort

My homestay consists of three traditional villas:

• Our Family Home – This is where I live with my husband, our daughter, and my mother.

• Guest Villas – Two newer establishments designed to accommodate travellers. We started welcoming guests after the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to sustain ourselves alongside our farming, while also sharing the traditional and rural Bhutanese way of life.

A Life Rooted in Farming

Our homestay is surrounded by paddy fields and a small orange orchard, with a vegetable garden below, where I spend most of my time. Everything we grow provides for our daily consumption, allowing us to rely very little on imported goods.

An Ideal Spot for Photography & Birdwatching

For guests looking to immerse themselves in village life, our homestay offers an authentic experience of traditional farming methods. It has also become a favourite spot for photographers, thanks to its vantage point, which provides stunning views of the valley and the majestic Punakha Dzong.

Since we are away from the noise of the city, this is also a perfect retreat for bird lovers. A morning or evening walk around the homestay often turns into a delightful birdwatching session.
