Handloom Demonstrations By A Royal Weaver

18-30 October 2016 daily, 11am -1pm, 3-5pm & 6-8pm

To further understand Bhutanese culture, visitors are invited to attend the live handloom demonstrations of Ms. Tshomo, a Royal Weaver. Bhutanese loom weaving is an ancient art, of which most Bhutanese girls are taught from the age of nine years.

Witness the intricacy, incredible detail and skill that goes into the creation of fabric to make traditional Bhutanese attire: The Kira, which is worn by women and the Gho that is for the men. Afull kira, the female Bhutanese dress, takes about two to three months to make.Ms. Tshomo, has worked on the Kitshothara Kira and the Shinglo Ghofor the Royal Wedding of the Bhutanese King and Queen, amongst other works.
